Last Week of Vacation - Week #6
Okay, so this is why having a website to generate money is so exciting - I achieved a new record in Weekly Revenue while doing nothing on vacation.
Some time last month I emailed MUG, Manhattan User Guide, about my site because it has a lot of resources for New Yorkers. This week it was featured. The day the email went out I spiked to a record 522 visitors in a single day. Well, that day I earned $3.35 in Google AdSense revenue and $0.03 from Revver. Well, that made for a nice vacation and provides some motivation to work hard next week. Back to the grind….

Website #4
I keep going back and forth between my old idea and my new one. The new idea relates to an old hobby and the old idea relates to my day job. The new idea seems more exciting, but will take a lot of time. The old one will be easier to do because I have some of it done already. Hmmmm… maybe I’ll just have to do both.

I Need To Optimize My Ad Spaces - Week #4
As reported earlier my site was recently indexed, which I believe is partially responsible for the rise in visitors per day stat. I noticed that I was getting a lot of bounces, which surprised me because I noticed the search terms were matching my content exactly. This led me to search for errors. What was turning them away? Well, one of the major problems was a set of bad links. One of the folders was named incorrectly, making a chunk of links pointing to a non-existing location.
Also, the first half of the week I received virtually no ad clicks. This made me think more about my advertising locations. I decided that my current configuration wasn’t visually attractive and so I spent the next two days arranging… Finally, I came up with a Google AdSense configuration that looks good (at least to my eyes) and appears to be working better (all clicks occurring after the change). In the upper left menu, I placed a Google AdSense for content Ad Unit (image and text) at the top with a Link Unit underneath. That arrangement was the source for all of my clicks. Next, I’m going to work on the right menu – thinking about another link unit. Hopefully, the improvements will show again in next week’s results. Other than that, I’ve just been adding content.
I want to also mention what has been going on with AdRoll. I’ve allowed an advertiser a free trial (a test run) on my site. I think it has been going okay. They’ve received a few clicks. I like their product, so I’m giving them through the month of August. Hopefully, we’ll be able to negotiate something afterward.
